The Operator is the first line of defect detection on the plant. They see the asset every shift, hear the noise change, notice the temperature climb — and every defect they raise early is a failure prevented later. The quality of the intake queue is largely decided here, not in the office.
- Raise a work request the same shift you observe a defect — do not wait for the next stand-up
- Include asset tag, symptom, evidence (photo, reading, video) and the consequence if left unaddressed
- Complete the operator-care route in full; record readings and note deviations against the expected range
- Escalate any P1 verbally to the Operations Supervisor immediately and then raise the work request
- Flag repeat defects on the same asset — 'this is the third time this month' is critical intelligence for Reliability

The Operator provides the site knowledge the Planner cannot see from the CMMS — access, operational sequence, upstream and downstream impact, isolation quirks. On any non-routine job, ten minutes of Operator input during planning prevents hours of day-of delays and safety issues.
- Walk the asset with the Planner when asked; share operational context, isolations and access constraints
- Flag isolation quirks, downstream impacts and permit sensitivities the Planner will not see from the CMMS
- Confirm the production window realistically — do not agree to a downday you know Operations won't honour

The Operator is the reality check on the weekly schedule. The plan only works if the plant will actually give up the asset, and the Operator is the one who knows if production commitments make that possible. Their job here is to flag conflicts early — not on the day.

- Flag any planned work that clashes with production commitments early in the week, not on the day
- Confirm asset availability windows for each scheduled job on your area
- Attend the scheduling meeting for shutdown or major-outage weeks — production input is decisive here

The Operator is the verification step in the reliability loop. Only they can confirm the fix actually worked once production resumes. If they silently accept a leaking pump or a noisy fan because 'it's better than it was', the failure mode is normalised and the whole close-out is worthless.
